The brand Arenaways, symbol of the liberalisation of passenger rail services in Italy, is property of the Italian railway enterprise Longitude Holding S.r.l., founded in Torino in 2021, with Railway License n. 81/2024..
On September 27, 2024, the Company obtained the single safety certificate from the European Railway Agency - ERA, allowing it to provide passenger transport services throughout Italy. Arenaways' operations fully comply with both organizational and material requirements of EU standards (Directive 2016/798) and national regulations (Legislative Decree No. 50/2019 and ANSF Decree 04/2012).
The certification body SI CERT awarded Arenaways the Quality Management System certification in accordance with the international standard ISO 9001, valid for the provision of Public Rail Transport services.
Arenaways is a member of Fer Cargo and part of the Executive Board of ALLRAIL.
The ambitious mission of Arenaways can be summarized in the payoff “Rail Different.” The Company aims at redefining the train travel experience by approaching also the local and InterCity connections with criteria of innovation and quality.
Arenaways is keen for trains in general to prosper, not just its own, as they currently are the mean of transport with the highest level of sustainability.
On January 27, 2025, Arenaways - Longitude Holding S.r.l. began operations with the first trip on the Cuneo-Saluzzo-Savigliano route, thanks to a ten-year contract signed with the Piedmont Mobility Agency. Just two months earlier, the company had expanded its shareholders to include two leading European sector players: Renfe Proyectos Internacionales, wholly owned by the Spanish operator Renfe, and the investment fund Serena Industrial Partners.
Longitude Holding S.r.l. was itself a very young company, founded four years before its operational launch by a pool of investors boasting over 30 years of industry experience, including the Arena family.
While the company was established in 2021, the Arenaways brand has a historic legacy: it was a pioneer in 2010 as the first private railway operator in Italy’s passenger transport market. It was founded by Giuseppe Arena, who now holds the honorary title of President in recognition of his fundamental contribution to the creation and establishment of the brand he conceived.
Renfe Proyectos Internacionales is a public company fully owned by Renfe, a company under the Ministry of Transport of the Kingdom of Spain dedicated to managing the Group's international activities as well as implementing new projects worldwide. It currently operates rail services in several European countries such as France, the Czech Republic, and Slovakia, and is involved in the development of the Rail Baltica Global Project. Renfe is also active in the Middle East and the Americas. The activities of Renfe Proyectos Internacionales range from entering into cooperation agreements with other countries to providing technical assistance, strategic consulting (in operations, management, technology, or workshop design), railway training, rolling stock sales, as well as directly operating public, commercial, and freight transport services outside Spain.
Arenaways Longitude Holding S.r.l. operates under Passenger and Freight Railway Company License No. 81/2024 from the Ministry of Infrastructure and Transport and the Single Safety Certificate issued by the European Railway Agency - ERA.
